NISCHINT: The AI That Learns to Worry, So Families Don’t Have To

Mumbai, India — In Hindi, the word nischint means something most Indian families have almost forgotten is possible: to be without worry. Not careless — genuinely, quietly free of the low hum of anxiety that follows a daughter’s solo commute, a child’s school pickup, or a parent living alone in another city. That feeling is the reason a new Mumbai-built AI platform has chosen to carry the word as its name.

The numbers explain why the worry exists in the first place. The National Commission for Women’s 2025 NARI report, surveying over 12,000 women across 31 Indian cities, found that 4 in 10 feel unsafe in their own city — and only 1 in 4 are confident a complaint would even be acted on. Government child-protection data from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights shows close to 4,000 children rescued from exploitative situations in a single year, most cases beginning the same ordinary way: a child briefly unaccounted for in the gap between two trusted adults. And a systematic review in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, drawing on the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India, found that between 13% and 37% of older Indians report persistent loneliness — often while living in the same city as family who call, but can’t always be there.

These aren’t rare tragedies. They’re the ordinary background anxiety of Indian family life — and almost nothing built for personal safety has ever tried to act before that anxiety turns into an emergency.

That is the gap NISCHINT was built to close. Most safety technology today is reactive by design — a panic button, an SOS app, a wearable alarm — all of them waiting for something to have already gone wrong before they do anything. NISCHINT’s founding belief is that real danger almost always has a “before”: a change in someone’s usual walking pattern, a deviation from a known route home, a child not at the pickup point at the expected time. NISCHINT was built to notice that moment — quietly, and before anyone has to press anything.

At the heart of the platform is an AI engine built in-house, referred to internally as Hermes™. Rather than applying one generic rulebook to everyone, Hermes learns what “normal” looks like for one specific person — their pace, their patterns, their routine — so it can recognize what isn’t normal, in real time, without waiting for a crisis to declare itself.

NISCHINT is designed around three people every Indian family recognizes: a woman commuting alone, a child being picked up from school, and a senior citizen living independently. Each carries a different kind of risk, and the harder engineering problem has been building a single intelligence layer capable of understanding all three — not three shallow tools stitched together.

Three patent applications have been filed with the Indian Patent Office covering core mechanisms behind the platform: geofence-based wandering detection, a pickup authorization and verification process for children, and a multi-modal distress detection method. Complete specifications for all three have been filed, and the applications are currently pending examination.

The team behind NISCHINT has also received DPIIT Startup India recognition, and is registered as a Micro Enterprise under the Udyam/MSME scheme.

NISCHINT’s build and execution have been led by Lokesh Thada, Chief Operating Officer, who has overseen the engine’s development from architecture through to launch readiness. The platform is scheduled for public launch on November 26, 2026.

“Every family we spoke to described the same thing in different words a small, constant worry that never fully goes away, because there’s no real way to watch over someone from a distance,” said Lokesh Thada. “We didn’t want to build another alarm. We wanted to build the thing that notices before anyone has to reach for one.”

NISCHINT is designed to be hardware-agnostic, working from a mobile app rather than requiring a dedicated wearable device, so that peace of mind isn’t limited to families who can afford extra hardware.
