CJP Protest in Delhi: Abhijeet Dipke Apologises to Supporters After Police Crackdown

New Delhi | July 21, 2026

The CJP protest in Delhi continued into Tuesday morning as members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) remained at Jantar Mantar, a day after police action during the outfit’s “Sansad Chalo” march left several protesters injured. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke apologised to supporters who were hurt during the crackdown and said the movement would continue.

The protest, which drew thousands of participants, had sought to march towards Parliament on Monday. However, police stopped the protesters as security arrangements were tightened in the national capital. The action took place amid an internet shutdown in the New Delhi district, limiting the immediate circulation of videos and visuals from the demonstration.

The CJP protest in Delhi has since drawn attention from civil society groups and medical professionals, with questions being raised over the handling of the demonstration and the use of force against protesters.

CJP Protest in Delhi Continues After Jantar Mantar Crackdown

The CJP protest in Delhi continued overnight despite heavy rain and increased security around Jantar Mantar. On Tuesday morning, volunteers were seen cleaning the protest site, while security personnel maintained a presence around the venue.

Police had removed tents and other temporary installations from the site on Monday, leaving only the stage structure standing. The tent covering the stage was reportedly in a damaged condition following the action.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke addressed supporters on Tuesday and apologised to those who were injured during the police action. The development came as the party continued to press ahead with its protest following Monday’s events.

The CJP has accused the Delhi Police of using excessive force during the “Sansad Chalo” march. The organisation alleged that several students were injured and claimed that Gitanjali J Angmo, the wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, was also pushed during the police action.

The allegations have not been independently established in the information available so far, while authorities have maintained security measures in and around the protest area.

Government Assures CJP Representatives of Discussions on Demands

The CJP protest in Delhi also saw the first reported interaction between the organisation and the Centre on Monday. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda met CJP spokespersons Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das and assured them that the government leadership would hold internal discussions on the demands raised by the protesters.

The meeting came as thousands of demonstrators attempted to move towards Parliament but were stopped by the police.

Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk announced that he would continue his indefinite hunger strike. He said the police action during the march had prompted him to extend the fast.

The protest subsequently shifted into a sit-in near Kerala House after police dismantled the stage at Jantar Mantar. The situation remained under close watch as the demonstrators continued to gather and demand action on their concerns.

The CJP protest in Delhi has also sparked debate over the management of large public demonstrations and the balance between public order and the right to peaceful protest.

AIIMS Doctors Seek Independent Inquiry Into Events

The CJP protest in Delhi came under further scrutiny on Tuesday after the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, appealed to President Droupadi Murmu for an independent and time-bound inquiry into the events at Jantar Mantar.

In its representation, the association expressed concern over reports alleging the use of lathi charge, tear gas and physical force against protesters, including students, doctors and young citizens. The RDA said that while some aspects of the incident remained contested, videos and eyewitness accounts in the public domain had raised questions about how the demonstration was handled.

The doctors’ association also referred to videos that purportedly showed police personnel with their faces and name badges covered, saying such actions, if verified, could raise concerns about transparency and accountability.

The RDA further raised questions over reports concerning Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalisation at Safdarjung Hospital and claims that he was not allowed to leave despite seeking Leave Against Medical Advice (LAMA). The association said that, if accurate, such circumstances would raise questions about patient autonomy and rights.

As the CJP protest in Delhi enters another day, attention remains focused on the government’s response to the protesters’ demands, the ongoing sit-in and calls for an inquiry into Monday’s police action. With the protesters continuing their demonstration and authorities maintaining security arrangements, the coming days are likely to determine whether further dialogue can help resolve the issues at the centre of the protest.
